'þessu' in 422 and 423 is the dative neuter singular, not
genitive 'þessa' as I would have expected, and as the dictionaries and
grammars would suggest. Normally it's genitive for the person or
thing being avenged and dative for the reciptient the vengeance (with
or without the preposition). Besides the regular usages, Gordon just
mentions these two instances in Hrafnels saga "with dative" in the
glossary. There is no comment in the notes. I wonder if this happens
anywhere else.
