sama skipi ok  kómu útan at Ögðum ok heldu þaðan til Björgynjar. Þá

same ship and (they) came out [from out, ie reached land] at Agdir ( Southern Norway ? [yes]) and held (course? [yes]) thence to Bergen .  Then

 

kvað hann vísu:

he spoke (this) verse: (a verse which is completely beyond me!)

 

'Vér höfum vaðnar leirur

We have (something to do with wading?) [waded. Note: after hafa the past part (declined like adjective) agrees with object, thus fem acc pl] muddy [mud flats, noun]

 

vikur fimm megingrimmar;

[for] five weeks mighty fierce [fimm megingrimmar vikur is fem acc pl, of time]

 

saurs vara vant, er várum,

(mud, again?) were lacking, when (we)were [see my translation notes/questions for my concerns about this line in the text]

 

viðr, í Grímsboe miðjum.

with, in (the) middle of Grimsby .

 

Nú'r þat's más of mýrar

Now when it ? ?? of (the) moor [see my translation notes/questions for my concerns about this line in the text]

 

meginkátliga látum

very merry manner, allowed

 

branda elg á bylgjur

roast [gen of brandr, blade]  ?? an elk a-roaring [on the billows, acc pl of bylgja]

 

Björgynjar til dynja.'

resounding to Bergen .

 

Here’s how I think it would read in “normal” prose:

 

Nú er þat er of mýrar más,(vér) látum elg branda dynja meginkátliga á bylgjur til Björgynjar
