Thanks to everyone for putting my mind at ease over that! Could the
differences be something to do with "encoding"? If I click on the
VIEW menu in Internet Explorer, and go down to ENCODING, I see that
I'm on WESTERN EUROPEAN (ISO). Changing to WESTERN EUROPEAN
(WINDOWS) doesn't alter the appearence as far as I can see, either
of those letters I typed, or the garbled Auðun. But maybe one of
the other options...

To get the Norse letters I went to the START menu in Windows, to
CONTROL PANEL, and "DATE, TIME, LANGUAGE AND REGIONAL OPTIONS".
Having selected the different keyboard options I wanted, I then
picked key combinations I can use to switch to each of them:
Icelandic, English, etc. Then it's just a matter of finding the
right keys, e.g. in the Icelandic layout ; = æ, - = ö, [ = ð, / = þ,
and ' puts an acute accent over the next vowel you type. (I too am
a computer idiot, and it took me ages to work that one out.)

ιδου δεδωκα υμιν την εξουσιαν του πατειν επανω οφεων και σκορπιων,
και επι πασαν την δυναμιν του εχθρου, και ουδεν υμας ου μη αδικηση.

How does that look? It's Greek to me, and so it should be.

a square from someone replying, do you see, and then I think hey I
did so not say that. I do not know the name of the system I use, you
