retinue, entourage, courtiers - call them what you will - accusative
singular

Yes, exactly. Or if you want to
reflect the reflexive case, you might say "then he dared not allow himself to be
seen".

Well, you´ve still managed to get it right basically even so

A "skreppa" is what we call a "scrip" in English which is a
little leather pouch attached to your belt which I believe was originally
largely used by monks but by certainly by Tudor times it was more widely used -
I suppose it's the modern day equivalent to a purse or bum-bag. The staff
(walking stick) and scrip were symbolic of a pilgrim's
status.
