Sael Sarah
I shall keep your comments, in hard copy Sarah, in a folder with pockets, so that I keep them lesson by lesson, I am very satisfied with your comments, and the corrections, they are of value and I am grateful for them
A lot of the blue lines, have a bit of guess work in them, I think I am guessing correctly when i do, because I have a real feeling for this language, and having German and to some extent Old English  will be helping, me to make "intelligent guesses" I often keep in the repective pockets the comments to one or two others, I can learn from them too, I do thank you for all this, because there has never been work (?work?) that I have enjoyed more.
Well wishes, from beautiful down town Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England
Patricia

Sæl Patricia!

You certainly are making very good headway, especially seeing as you don´t have your reference books yet!  Your literal translation (in red) shows up where you are slightly off track, but you tend to pick it up again from the context with your translation in blue - so well done!

I'll go through it clause by clause with you and hopefully that will point you in the right direction [this doesn't mean to say there are mistakes in every clause, mind! :-)]

Auðun svarar "Herra þat er á yðru valdi
literally: "Lord, that is to/on/in your power"

en engu játum vér øðru
literally: but nothing agree we other

en þessu er vér høfum áðr ætlat
literally: than to this which we have previously intended

Þá mælti konungr "Hví mun eigi þat til
literally: then said king "How will not it (be)

at þú farir leið þína
literally: that you travel way your

Ok kom þá til mín er þu ferr aptr
literally: and come then to me when you travel back

ok seg mér hversu Sveinn Konungr
literally: and say to me how Sveinn King

launar þér dýrit
literally: rewards you animal-the

Ok kann þat vera at þú sér gæfumaðr
literally: and can it be that you be of-luck-man
[here sér is not the reflexive pronoun, but the present subjunctive of vera = to be]

Því heit ek þér sagði Auðun
literally: this promise I to you said Auðun

I hope this helps you to see that you really are making progress!

Cheers,
Sarah.

Heya Sarah, I might have done better this time, where I put brackets in, it is either guessed or Dunno
Blessings
Patricia

Auðun svarar "Herra þat er á yðru valdi
Audun answer "Lord that is your rule
Auðun said "My Lord it is in your Power

en engu játum vér øðru en þessu er vér øðru en þessu er vér høfum áðr ætlat
(if) not agree to other of this moment ???than to the (hofum) already thought
I do not agree to do other, now that I have already decided  (got stuck there)

Þa mæli konungr "Hvi mun eigi þartil at þufarir leið þina. sem þu vill?
then said King  "Why (mun) not go then you fare way (þina) as you wish
then said the King  "why not go then and fare as you wish

Ok kom þa til min er þu ferr aptr ok seg mér hversu Sveinn Konungr
and come there to me at thy return and say me how King Sweinn
And come to me on your return and tell me how King Sweinn

launar þer dýrit
reward for animal
rewarded you for the creature.

Ok kann þat vera at þu sér gæfumaðr
and can that be thou self a luckyman
and can it be that thou are a luckyman  (they make it one word so shall I)

Þvi heit ek þér sagði Auðun
This there I promise me said Auðun
"Yes I promise to do this " said Auðun

I am actually beginning to recognise patterns of language, still no books yet but I believe I'm better pleased with this one
Thank you for this opportunity
Patricia

Hello everyone!

Don't worry if you've not posted your translation yet, it's never too late, but for those who are eager to do the next bit - here it is.

[By the way: any ø should really be o with a little squiggle underneath, but I can't get my keyboard to give a reasonable representation of this - sorry.]
