Hi Sarah and Jed

I have posted the photos at this website: http://www.pcug.org.au/~athompso/ice_hrafnkell.htm

I didn’t say they were great photos, but at least they will give you some idea of the landscape. Click on each photo to display a larger version.

1. Jökulsá á dal. The picture of me pulling my way across Jökulsá á dal was taken a few miles North of Aðalból.

2. Aðalból. The stream flowing below Aðalból is, I believe, Grjótá, it flows into Jökulsá á dal at Brú.

3. Freyfaxahamarr (I think). I can´t quite recall now whether my guide said that this was where Einarr supposedly rode Freyfaxi or…(if you haven´t got this far in the story yet, I won´t spoil it for you!)

3. Snæfell. (1833 metres high) South of Aðalból. I think Einarr must have been looking for the 30 missing sheep around here.

4 & 5. Vatnajökull. The glaciers, not far from where “Jökulsá fellr undir þeim” (line 125).

6. Hrafnkelsstaðir og Lagarfljót. In Fljótsdalur, where Hrafnkell moves his farm to (line 613). Hrafnkelsstaðir is on the other side of the fljót. With respect to the sheep in the foreground, ek heyrða sauðarjarm, but I have to say that Icelandic sheep are the dumbest animals I have ever encountered; far more feeble-minded than Australian sheep. No wonder they were missing for nearly a week.

In case you are interested, if you click on the ship in the top left hand corner of the web-page, you will be able to locate some more of my photos of Iceland, including sites mentioned in other sagas.

Hi all

If anyone is interested, I have a few photos which I took of Aðalból and other scenery from Hrafnkell´s Saga which I snapped while on holidays in Iceland in 1999. Just say if you you would be interested and I´ll post them.
