Hi Birgit!

The "ing" rune stands only for the two letters ng, Ingr is the name of the god which the rune is named after.
I don´t know much about spelling in the older futhark but in the younger one "ing" would (usually) be spelled "ik" since the younger k rune has also the sounds "g","ng"and "nk" but the spelling is quite free so you can spell it both H-R-I-N-K-R and H-R-I-K-R.
When you use the elder futhark you should have the I-rune and I suggest that you use "the ending R" rune.

Hail to all,

I have a question about runic inscriptions.  Does the "ING" rune stand for all three letters "-ing", or just the "-ng", in runic inscriptions?  Or are there even instances where "ing" is written in three runes I-N-G?  I am more interested in the Elder Futhark, but the Younger one as well.

For example, the word "hringr" = ring, would it be spelled with the runes for
H-R-(ing rune)-R?

Your comments are much appreciated.

Regards,
Birgit
