Salutations,

Mister Todd Longfellow,in his mailing-list,recently sent a message explaining,in a simple and direct way,how to make your machine capable to reproduce "special characters".I'm not a "technocrat" or a "computer technician",but I think that following these instructions your machine will be capable to show and reproduce old icelandic characters. So,let's go to the message of Mister Todd:

"Method two is to use the standard Icelandic keyboard overlay from the
Windows CD. To install it, go to the control panel and open the
Keyboard applet. Click on the Languages tab and then select Icelandic
from the drop down list. Then click the Add button. A blue EN icon
will appear in the system tray (the area next to the clock). When you
click on the EN icon, you will see the entry for Icelandic. Click it
to use the Icelandic overlay. Do the same thing again to change back
to English. With the Icelandic overlay active, type the following
keys to produce the special characters. This assumes you have a US
keyboard, as I do not know if the punctuation keys are the same on a
European KB.

press the [ key to get ð
press the [ key shifed to get Ð

press the ; key to get æ
press the ; key shifted to get Æ

press the / key to get þ
press the / key shifted to get Þ".

 My Best Regards,

P.S.:The above method seems to lack the "hooked o"(you can use the "umlauted o" instead) and the "œ",for purposes of writing.
