The graphic files I mailed to Haukur only contain a description of
the basic vowel-system - they contain no information on consonants
beyond the 12 runes used to represent them. The consonant-system
for 'rýniska' includes 'punctuation of týr for D'(+ other markings),
'punctuation of kaun for G'(+ other markings), and 'punctuation of
bjarkan for P (+ punctuation to medial V). The system includes no
'punctuation of kaun for Q', as there is no proper Q in either Old
Norse or its direct ancestor (Proto-Norse). The closest equivalent
to Latin Q is KW/KV, which is written KU (kaun-úrr) in 'rýniska' -
the runic manuscript you found from Heiðabý clearly dates from the
early Judeo-Roman era in Denmark and contains a blend of true runic
characters and Latinized additions. There is no need for a Q-symbol
in Old Norse, whatever the dialect we wish to describe; on the other
hand, we do need to distinguish medial V from medial B and P (when
the V is from Proto-Norse V/B) - hence the two different ways of
punctuating bjarkan. Medial V from F is not written with 'bjarkan',
but with 'fé' - thus reflecting both conservative spelling and the
true origin of the sound. In the not too distant future, I hope to
post a diagram of the consonant-system. At present, the system is
being reviewed and analyzed in the light of our current knowledge -
so I am confined to waiting. I hope to be able to discuss consonants
more fully in the near future. Thank you for your interest.

Kveðja,
Konráð.
