Hi!

I've not really come across many diminutives in my studies of Icelandic and Swedish, except for versions of names e.g. Lasse for Lars. Have diminutives along the lines of -chen (German MÄDCHEN, corresponding to -kin in English, although very rare) and -lein (German poetic MÄGDELEIN, I think, possible cognate with the other diminutive -ling in SÄUGLING, c.f. Tolkien's "HALFLING") died out completely? If not, can anyone give me any examples, please?

Thanks,

Simon
