Hi

I'm using Michael Barnes New intro to ON at moment and in the
traditional (i.e. not modern Icelandic) pronounciation he says an a in
a stressed sylable is always as in the English "father". This is
similar to standard enlish (i.e. Southern) pronounciation rather than
Yorkshire accent, where the Vikings settled. So why a in 'father'
rather than in 'pasta'?
