Greetings,

I have launched the effort to complete the E-Text version of the
Zoega Old Icelandic Dictionary.

About half the dictionary has been completed at this point.

Volunteers are needed to proof/edit the Raw OCR files in RTF format
in order to correct them to match the printed dictionary.

Directions for the project can be found at:

http://w3.one.net/~tomwulf/NW/ON/ZProject/project.htm

This format is usable for most word-processors including MS Word,
WordPerfect, Star Office etc.

Students of Old Norse will find that the process of editing the
files, while tedious, is actually quite interesting.

For instance, I recently discovered that there was an Old Norse term
for a man's nipple and one for a camel.

If just 100 people volunteer to proof a single file consisting of 2
pages from the dictionary, the project will be finished by the end of
the year...

Completed files for the project will be available both on the Midnott
Sol site and on the FTP site that I maintain.

When the project is done the complete dictionary will be available in
a variety of formats as well.

Regards,

Tom Wulf
