I reread his post and I think even his "drift" into theosophy was on its
effect on language interpretation. I don't believe you can truly separate
the culture from the language. While I agree that we don't want this to
turn into a religious disussion, I think making all references to religion
taboo is a bit too stringent a filter. Much of the scholarly work on Old
Norse, and indeed the material itself, is a discussion of religion. I
would also hazard a guess that the bulk of the people on this list are
interested in the religious content of the language either from a historical
or modern relious point of view. But I will of course follow your
directives on the list about this....
