Well, he does have a point here. I haven't been posting much of anything
about Old Norse. I've been uncertain about the extent to which Haukur would
find time to continue to work with the course, and not wanting to start
anything freelance if he did find time, and I let that become an excuse
for doing nothing. Meanwhile, there was a little bit of language related
posting happening here (mostly Anþanareiks translation efforts), and no one
seemed to be complaining... or responding.

In fact, I was one of the people not responding to those translations.
I don't feel myself qualified to post critiques like "this is wrong",
and while it might have been interesting to compare translations,
I can't do that when I'm seeing the ON text interleaved with someone
else's English ... I get too influenced by that other person's translation.

So I basically did nothing, figuring there were probably people getting
something out of those translations, and it would be counterproductive
to post about how useless they are to me _personally_. (i.e. as moderator,
I approve; as a list member, they aren't helping me any).

But they also kept me complacent. Something was going on on the list;
I didn't need to try hard to stir up some useful activity. And since my
own ON studies still seem to be focussed on memorization (not very list
relevant), I let my on-list role become simply monitoring the list
for inappropriate behaviour.

So, I think it's time to change this. See my next message for details.
