On a different note, how can I enter the 'thorn' and 'eth' characters in a
Palm IIIx handheld?

I believe these had different forms at different times and places. The
lessons
use 13th century Old Icelandic... forms may have been different in West
Norse,
or earlier, or both.

Now that depends on the specifics of your computer system. So I can't really
help you there.
