I found this particular reference in "Gods of the Ancient Northmen" by
Georges Dumezil.

In speaking of historical or literary traces of astral imagery on page
143 ".....Examples of these traces....are the "Eyes of Thjazi and the
"Toe of Aurvandill," the latter apparently being the morning star of
the Germanic comunity, judging from the meanings of "earendel" in Old
English."
