I don't think so. Skt. s’arman 'cover, shelter, protection, refuge, safety'; s’aran.a 'protecting, defending'; a-s’a:ra 'shed, shelter'; upa:s’ara ‘protection'; cf. Old Averstan sar- 'shelter' â€" all point to the meaning 'shelter, protection', while one would hardly say that the cream "protects" the boiling milk.

Where dod you find this etymology? The term s’aras is post-Rigvedic, and I could not trace your proposed etymology in any of the dictionaries I have access to.
