For what it's worth, Lith. <s^vìtras> means 'emery (paper)' (note the hyphens in 'Sand-, Glas-, Schmirgelpapier'), i.e. 'what is used to make things glossy, shiny'. No words meaning 'glass' or 'sand' in this nest in Lithuanian.
