Also note that an amateur is someone who has an interest but knows the limits of his or her proficiency and defers to those who are true professionals. If anyone wrote patent bullshit about Central American Literature, I'd kick their ass from hell to breakfast.

Please note the key phrases "*sound* linguistic and historical
knowledge", and "*serious* interest".
