I don't know its origin, I just know that in Slavic the suffix
-išče makes nouns which shows the place. For instance grebišče < grebo
(Grab, grave).
In Romanian "ishte" makes nouns from adjectivesn lin(=quiet) > linishte
( silence) but it acts as in Slavic ( for my perception) making nouns
(from another nouns) which shows too the place where has been or is
something porumb(maize, Mais) + ishte > porumbishte( place where the
mais is/has been cultivated, Maisfeld) etc etc.
