Actually they didn't directly; the Bastarnae invaded the Przeworsk area from the southeast, and from the resulting society, with Bastarnian upper class (Proto-Hochdeutsch speaking) and Przeworsk lower class (Proto-Platt speaking), Ariovistus began a campaign towards Swabia and Bavaria, until he was sidetracked to Alsace; at the same time or slightly later the Bastarnians upper class in Przeworsk invaded Westphalia and Saxony; later, after Ariovistus failed, they invaded (the later) Swabia and Bavaria and consolidated his conquests.

Ultimately the roots of the Bastarnians were in the Przeworsk culture (but mixed with Bastarnians from the east), but that was before the times of the above paragraph.
