The interesting thing about this proposed etymology for 'Sarmatian', http://en.allexperts.com/e/s/sa/sarmatians.htm
is that it makes it root cognate with 'Germani'. Same name (assuming Sarmatian had stopped PIE *g^- somewhere around *d3- or *z^-, which would also be where Roman written g was at the time?).
