We don't seem to understand the words "clearly" and "probable" in the
same way. Of all the PIE vocalisms *o is the least likely one here (no
Brugmann's Law).

The same goes for "obvious". Slavic *bosU means specifically 'barefoot',
but Gmc. *Bara- may be used of any part of the human body (not to
mention the human body as a whole), or of anything open, exposed,
unprotected etc. (like "bare ground"). There is no semantic connection
with swelling. Is a bare head swollen? Or bare hands?
