I know. But it's one of the shakiest roots in the whole book.

There's plenty of _extremely_ doubtful stuff in Pokorny.

Two points: (a) *bHes- 'blow' is questionable as a PIE reconstruction;
(b) a connection between <bábhasti> (?? I don't know this word with the
meaning 'blows', pace Mallory & Adams who probably have it from Pokorny)
and <bHam.sas-> is even more questionable, for both formal and semantic
reasons.

Just because it's similar? Anyway, it isn't likely to come from
*bHos-od- (whatever the origin of the strange suffix), as such a form
would have been affected by the open-syllable lengthening of *o
(Brugmann's Law).
