I am sure your expeditions to frenchify your neighbors look different
from the other side of the fence.
Your immediate neighbors are even more paranoid.
France is the European country which has started most wars.
Do you have factual objections?

A road which is open half the year is more important than one which
isn't there. I think I read somewhere that Strassburg, as it was then,
had a defense alliance with some of the Swiss cities and they held
manoeuvres down the Rhine with expeditionary forces.

It was very important, actually. The Swiss started their war of
liberation a few decades later, and for that, and to succeed, you need
money, which by that time they must have had plenty.
