There's some deep and strange psychological thing going on there.
It occurred to me some time ago that if it hadn't been for the Dutch
invasion (huh?), England would have been Catholic, and who knows if
there had then been an industrial revolution, British expansion etc?
That's the type of facts that mechanism is supposed to protect you
from. But why and how I don't know.
English lost its gutturals at a time of intense rivalry with the
Netherlands.


Torsten
