That seems to be related to Lat. rumpo: 'break'; the root is *reup-
'break, rend, force open' (cf. also ON rjúfa, OE re:ofan < *reufa- <
*réup-e/o-). It's a different root, but there may have been a
sound-symbolic "cospiracy" involving several phonetically similar and
semantically convergent roots already in PIE, cf. also *(h1)reip- (Gk.
ereipo: 'dash down', ON rífa 'destroy', etc.).
