Those who make the connection regard the <f> in <faveo:> as due to
Sabine influence, Faliscan hypercorection or some other sort of
dialecticism (as in other words with f- < *g(^)H-). I have also seen the
protoform of the Slavic word reconstructed with *gWH-, but this would
probably complicate comparison with Germanic.
