" and your claim Varuna is not IE crashes on the groundwork of his theory."

he tried to show that Varuna was existing in Scandanavian mythology.  I think that was not accepted by any one at all. In fact, Piotr might have commented on this earlier in the thread.

He is particularly fond of Mitra and tried to show, if I am not wrong," that "  how, from Vedic India to Ireland from Caucasia to Rome, and from Iran to Old Germany, the sovereign gods and heroes always appear in couples"

I don;t know how this was taken by the scholar world, but frankly it falls flat on its nose - the pair concept belongs to later "old Vedics" - Varuna appeared solo first, then he took up Mitra along him, as the Lord of Night and slowly, this has changed to Varuna reigning darkness (see how he is compared to Moon) and Mitra to Sun(in fact, one of the names of Sun has come to be Mitra).

Understanding Vedics on the basis of one scholar is trying to understand mathematics only through addition.

there is more to Mathematics than additions and Vedics can do better than Dumezil, and  perhaps, inspite of Dumezil.
