Kishore,

it is my belief that Varuna is tied to the planet Venus, which originally was connected with rivers, lakes, and seas; dawn and (re)birth.

Jupiter is the planet which is part of the core constituent elements of the weather-god. Coukd conceivably be Indra.

The archives have a long and interesting discussion of these theonyms.

Without wanting to be Clintonesque, "supreme" should, I think, be understood in tw basic ways: 'very important' (Varuna) and 'regnant' (Indra).

Not always. Varuna was the supreme God in Indian pantheon, before
Indra was. Yet Varuna had nothing to do with storm and weather. Of
course, You must have made the comment, if at all you had India in
mind, about Indra.
