I've come to think that caballus, Kapal, kobyla, etc
are from *ka?_pul 'bad foal'.
This Romanian word also fits in the mould : ka?-pul- 'bad child'.
Are Children that bad over there ?
I don't think the metathesis *k_p_l < *k_l_p
