Portuguese/Spanish Gordo "fat" came from Latin gurdus, of obscure origin, meaning "stupid, rude". Gurdus seems to be related to IE *gWer- "heavy" (cf. guru, gravis, barys, brutus) but also to Greek bradys (<*gWrdu ?)

That's what I've read too. I've seen a lot of speculation that it's from Celtic. I'd say, if not from Celtic, then possibly Lusitanian --but do we know enough to tell which one? If so, where does the ending come from?
