I like Douglas Kilday's scenario of the western
leading edge of IE being responsible for that --and
it's not really incompatible with your idea. It has
less drama but as later waves of settlement moved in,
they may have left remnants --i.e. the Siculi/Sikeloi,
NWB, Iarn Beurla, et al. as Douglas pointed out.
