I am outright illogical here if you read this as a statment of
syncronic analysis. What I meant to say is that the devoicing should
have become phonemisized as a contrastive feature at the time when
Icelandic lost contrastive consonant length. And also that
the "affricate" should thus, at least historically, be understood as
one phoneme, not a sequence.
