Sheesh: I tried ISO-8859-2. :-( (In the text I received from the
yahoogroups server the ö's and ü's were already altered, but in
the... good way: tilde and circumflex.

OK. Both, ISO-8859-1 and ISO-8859-2 contain these char(acter)s.

But why does Unicode not work?! (From the Macintosh platform it seems
to work better. Encodings under Linux are the words. Seemingly.)
