And what are the words in what languages that give you *the-?
The porcupine of Italy, Hystrix cristata, is an African animal,
thought to be introduced to Europe in Roman times. Hystrix indicus
ranges from India to Syria and Palestine but not farther north. A PIE
word for porcupine would be evidence for the OI(or thereabout)T.
