(Sorry, I sent that last post too soon.) I meant to point
out that even though it's true that they argue for just two
series, Meillet and Lehmann don't help your position at all,
since they have *k^ and *kW. In fact Meillet says explicitly
that '*kW est autre chose que *k^w'.
