That's what I was wondering when I saw <nu:któs> in Pokorny.
I haven't seen Cowgill's original treatment, but Sihler
gives only examples with short <u>, if we exclude the verbal
suffix -nu:- ~ -nu-. Another interesting word is <onoma> ~
<enuma>.
