In Spanish bote is used for "container" usually
plastic or "jar", also"boat"
except for here in El Salvador, where it only has the
meaning "boat" and they use guacal "gourd" for
"plastic container"
It definitely looks related to bottle
So is it possible that pot was a Germanic reflex of
*bot-????
