Richard, I think the Thai evidence convinced me of the possibility.

I am only saying that I think better explanations for the Latin anomalies
exist: like Brugmann's -*d formant.

The pre-Latin development (h + t > th > þ > ð > d) makes sense. For ?
+ t, that fits in with some of the Afroasiatic developments of the
cognates of Semitic emphatics.
