I think you will find few languages that lack /a/, the central low to mid
vowel.

I think a language with nothing acting as phonemic /a/
just does not exist.
It runs against /a/ being the most basic and neutral vowel
in all languages.
The reason why I think PIE *e is just a way of
writing /a/.
