II. Albanian puth is NOT FULLY EQUIVALENT WITH ENGLISH KISS or WITH
FRENCH BAISER => this is your wrong assumption here

Albanian puth (in its reflexive mode) ALREADY CONTAINS AS ITS
SECONDARY MEANING, THE MEANING: TO INTERCOURSE. ...SEE PUTHEM IN
ALBANIAN DICTIONARY

=============
I think this latin word *bas-iare had a gradation of meanings from the very start :
1. weak : kiss on the cheek (as a salute)
2. love kiss on the lips
3. intercourse
4. to cheat or to deceive
I remember pathetic attempts by teachers who wanted us to believe the author only meant "a light kiss", even though it was clear he was playing with the whole array of meaning.
I don't think French invented this.
It was in latin from the start (at least 2 and 3)

And bas-iare may be to *bh_k or *b_k
what bris-are is to break

So we are moving around this *p_k/bh_k hub.
