It's hold a Balticism -- either a substratal one (but not very old, since
Baltic /u/ yielded East Slavic /u/, not /U/) or even a Lithuanism spread at
the time of the Great Dutchy of Lithuania (< Lith. diminutive suffix
-(i)`ukas).
