A similar etymological explanation is given for these
North Ger. Kate, Kote, Kotte (synonyms for Hütte)
in German language dictionaries.

(Related to katun, there has been an allegation that in
Mongolian hotun or khotun means or once meant "grazing camp."
I can't verify wether true or false.)
