I don't know about <Carnuti>, but <Aedui> certainly looks as
if it could be from PCelt. *aydu- 'fire', PIE *h2eydH-.

=========
A.F :
Why not,
but I don't feel this is very convincing.
=======
Specifically, *nanto- could be from *nm-to-. And a
valley is a kind of bend in the earth's contour.
==========
A.F :
It is *nantu-
FRench city : Nantua < *nantu-a in the Alps.
How can *nantu be derived from *nm-to- ?
Please explain phonetic details.

Phonetic profile :
I have been looking for a way to sort out tribes/rivers/mountains
according to objective criteria.
1.
Celtic has preserved PIE *e *o
And clear Celtic names just are made with e and o :
petro-cores, lemovices, redones etc.
2.
Etruscan is conspicuous for having no o
although Bask has o
we can expect non PIE words to display no -o-.
3.
Non PIE names,
we can expect that non PIE profile can be determined
by first looking at places where non PIE are the most attested
hence Aquitania.
The vocalic scheme a_u is attested in many words :
Garu-mna, ausk-(i),
this
4
then we can use this schem to sort out names
that display this a_u scheme.

Haedu-i :
Resented p-celts and worked with Romans
Near the Arar non PIE river.
CArnut-i
Near the Atura displaying the same a_u scheme
Nantu
Exists in the Alps.

ETc

this can be a method to sort things out.
