In Balkan languages word for faber 'smith', to my view, is related to
root *wei-3 `to pursue with vigor, desire'. 1. Alb vigâ, -ni `giant'
with variant vigan, usually in personal names, from *wig-eno, present
only in Gheg dialect and loaned in Balkan languages with the meaning
`smith', like in Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, cf. Greek i:s, Latin vi:s,
vim `power, force, strength'. 2. Probably Alb visar `treasure,
treasury, depository' from *wi-t-yo-, used as well as personal name.
3. Alb vistër `things in sequence: series; string of
fish/fruit/vegetables; adv in succession' with instrumental suffix
tro, used also in synonymic pair varg e vistër. (Pokorny 3. wei- 1123.)
