I'd say there's met. (not just in Welsh) at the
stage when *gYomuf+ > *gYoMuv+ > *gYovuM+ (possibly
under the influence of 'summer'). Also, I believe
that the nom. and stem would undergo slightly
different rules (in other nouns also). I can't know
exactly which cases would change in which ways, but
the existence of two alternate forms (one unattested
in OW) seems possible.
