Veps "hebon" (horse) - PIE connection?

I happened upon a CD that included a song in the Vepsian or Veps
language. One of the verses goes as follows (since this can't handle
hacheks, sh and zh are as in SHould and fuSIon):

Mushtan hebon, mushtan kor'jan,
mushtan, mish me shurguimae.
Mushtan mutsuizhen pertiizhen,
mish me erigean'ziimae.

I remember the horse, I remember the sledge,
I remember(,) where we sledged.
I remember the small farmhouse(,)
where we said goodbye.

The similarity between "hebon" and h1ek^won (even in the grammatical
case!) stood out at once. If this were a borrowing from PIE, then we
have evidence of h1.
