Italic has forms apparently from *dheH1- or *dhH1.-
(optional within a word) giving PIt *the:- and *tha-
-s -etc. This doesn't necessarily mean that fa:s <
*dhH1.-s instead of *bhaH2-s.

Osc fíísnam, L fa:num "shrine"; L fe:stus "holiday"

This etymology is usually given to explain Greek
theós, thes-, thio- "god" from *dhH1.só-s with "put"
as "place (on alter), make offering, etc." which is
probably right.

I'd explain the phonology and alternations
differently than most, but that doesn't matter here.
