Watkins derives Greek <ero:s> from *H1erH2- 'to separate, adjoin' as
well as verb <erasthai> 'to love' with other derivative
erasmios 'lovely, pleasant', that have yielded Latin Erasmus. As
cognate he takes Old Hittite arhaš 'border', Old Irish or 'border'
and Lithuanian irti 'to be dissolved' (separated): Latin
rarus 'having interval between' (AHD, 2. erH -24).

chaos is derived from *g'he:u- 'to yawn, gape' from variant form
*g'hau- > khaos 'empty space, chasm'. As cognate he give Old English
*go:ma 'jaw, palate'. Compare also *g'ha:i-.
